The first of God's many promises is found in the fifth commandment," honour your father and mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you." Duet Ch 5 v 16. God has promised us long life, and that things will go well for us, if we honour our parents. If however we choose to disregard God's command we do so at our own risk, and could incur the wrath of God . " so be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. Walk in all the way the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you possess."Duet Ch 5 vs 32-33.

dove1 John Ch 2 v 25 says this," and this is what he promised us---------even eternal life." There is a precondition to every promise, and this promise is no exception. God is ever faithful to keep his promises be it of good things or bad. Eternal life is dependant on our faith in Jesus Christ, and that we believe that Jesus is the risen Son of God: It is his rising to eternal life, that makes it possible for him to give us eternal life.
SMILEY FACEJames Ch 2 v 5 says, "Listen, my dear brothers: has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised to those who love him?" The kingdom of heaven for our inheritance if we obey God and love him and those whom he loves: the poor, the blind; the lame, the weak; the sick and any poor believer
James Ch 1 v 12 tells us," blessed is the man that perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those that love him." A crown is for royalty, Jesus king of kings, Lord of Lords, Son of the most high God; only God, only Son; is willing to share his throne with us, if we but persevere when trials come our way: never giving up but always looking forward in hope, and upward in faith; keeping in our hearts another promise that Jesus made that he will never leave us or forsake us. Remembering always that he never forgets his promises.

In Luke Ch 24 v 49 Jesus said, "I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." Wow! Clothed with power from God, power undisputed in the world. What had God promised to send? The Holy Spirit, the comforter who will lead us into all truth and show us all things pertaining to Jesus. He will give us power over sickness and evil spirits so that we may overcome them. elephant
Acts Ch 1 vs 4-6 reads, " on one occasion while he was eating with them he [Jesus] gave them this command, " do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you heard me speak about. For John baptised you with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit." To be baptised with the Holy Spirit of God! He has already given us his only begotten Son now we are to receive his Holy Spirit. There could never be a more intimate relationship. There could never be a greater honour bestowed upon us: all because we love our Lord God and believe his truth. Precious promises, faithful keeper of promises is our Lord God Almighty blessed be his name forever.

In Psalm 119 vs 49 -50 the psalmist wrote this, " remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life." How wonderful for this man that he has such faith in God's promise: that in the midst of great tribulation, it preserves his life. He did not lose faith, give up and die, he has stood firm.

God promised Abraham that Sarah his wife would bear him a son, and that Abraham would be the father of many nations. Abraham was a very old man and Sarah past the age of bearing children. He did not waver in his faith, though he knew his body was old and ready for the grave: and that Sarah had always been barren Romans Ch 4 vs 20-25 reads, " yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, But was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised."---------- And he did!

Numbers Ch 23 v 19 says this; " God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil?" The answer to both questions is a resounding No! From one end of the Bible to the other God has made his promises to us and he will keep his word. We must also do our part. In the world we woo and win people with just a small token of affection. God offers us eternity and a share in his glory, all that love can give: can we offer him less than our all.

God has not promised us a life of ease and luxury, on the contrary he has warned us that the world will hate us, and persecute us; we will be put in prison, and some of us put to death: for our faith: Never fear, he will give us the strength and courage we need to stand firm. St Paul in his second letter to the Corinthians Ch 15 vs 19-22 said this, "For the Son of God Jesus Christ who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not, "Yes " and " No ", but in him it has always been " Yes". For no matter how many promises God has made, they are " Yes " in Christ. And so through him the " Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come." We belong to God and he guarantees his ownership and promises not all the wealth of the earth but all the blessings of heaven. fish jumping
